GEOG-AN-MOD 09

Fourth International Workshop on “Geographical Analysis, Urban Modeling, Spatial Statistics” GEOG-AN-MOD 09 http://www.lisut.org/workshop/GEOG-AN-MOD09/

in conjunction with

The 2009 International Conference on Computational Science and its Applications (ICCSA 2009) June 29th to July 2rd, 2009 Kyung Hee University-Global Campus, Yongin (Korea) http://www.iccsa.org/

Workshop Description

The growth of Spatial Data Infrastructures, Geo-portals and private sector initiatives (e.g. Google Earth, Microsoft Virtual Earth, etc.) produced an increase of geographical data availability at any scale and worldwide. This growth has not been fully coupled by an increase of knowledge to support spatial decisions. Spatial analytical techniques and geographical analysis and modelling methods are therefore required in order to analyse data and to facilitate the decision process at all levels. Old geographical issues can find an answer thanks to new methods and instruments, while new issues are developing, challenging the researchers for new solutions. This workshop is aimed at contributing to the development of new techniques and methods to improve the process on knowledge acquisition

Workshop hyperspectral

On behalf of the Technical Program Committee of WHISPERS, the first Workshop on Hyperspectral Image and Signal Processing (Evolution in Remote Sensing), you will find attached to this mail the preliminary technical program. It consists of 3 plenary talks and a number of poster and oral presentations. You can also access this program through the conference website: http://www.ieee-whispers.com/2009/?Technical_Program

As highlighted by the plenary talks (one talk on food safety, one on remote sening of the environment, one planetary exploration), the conference aims at gathering the different communities involved in hyperspectral processing and spectroscopy.

Consequently, the program includes paper dealing with different applications (melanosome, forestry, raman spectroscopy, astrophysics, monitoring of the environment, target detection….) but also different sessions presenting algorithms that can be used in various applications (unmixing, classificiation, segmentation, feature extraction and dimension reduction…).

The registration is now also open: http://www.ieee-whispers.com/2009/?Registration

ACM SIGSPATIAL 09

17th ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems

November 4-6, 2009 Seattle, WA, USA http://acmgis09.cs.umn.edu

The ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems 2009 (ACM GIS 2009) is the seventeenth event of a series of symposia and workshops that began in 1993 with the aim of bringing together researchers, developers, users, and practitioners carrying out research and development in novel systems based on geo-spatial data and knowledge, and fostering interdisciplinary discussions and research in all aspects of geographic information systems. The conference provides a forum for original research contributions covering all conceptual, design, and implementation aspects of GIS ranging from applications, user interface considerations, and visualization down to storage management and indexing issues. This year's conference builds on last year's conference great success and on being the premier annual conference of the ACM Special Interest Group on Spatial Information (ACM SIGSPATIAL). Researchers, students, and practitioners are invited to submit their contributions to this year's ACM GIS.

SPRING 09

2nd ACM International Workshop on Security and Privacy in GIS and LBS

Co-located with 17th ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems (ACM GIS 2009)

November 3, 2009, Seattle, WA, USA

CALL FOR RESEARCH PAPERS

Our society is witnessing a dramatic increase in geospatial data infrastructures, data products, and services, many of them playing a key role in decision making in organizations. There are currently major national and international efforts in the coordinated development, use, sharing, and dissemination of geospatial data in several application contexts including homeland security, environmental crises, and natural and industrial disasters. Geospatial infrastructures are being leveraged by companies to provide a large variety of location-based services (LBS) able to tailor services to users. However, despite the increase of publicly accessible geospatial information only little attention is being paid on how to secure geospatial information systems (GIS) and LBS. Privacy is also of increasing concern given the sensitivity of personally-identifiable location information. This is despite major advancements that have been made in secure computing infrastructures and the secure and privacy-preserving management of traditional (relational) data in particular. Given these pressing needs for securing GIS and LBS as well as assuring privacy, it is compelling to investigate security and privacy aspects as they relate to the management of geospatial data and the development of both emerging LBS and mission-critical geographic applications.

LBSN 09

2009 International Workshop on Location Based Social Networks

http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/xingx/LBSN2009.htm

Nov. 3, 2009, Seattle, WA, USA Held in conjunction with the 17th ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems

Social networking services have become extremely popular in recent years, especially for young people. However, they are still rooted in the virtual world. People usually need to sit behind a desktop computer to upload photos, write blogs and communicate with friends. The development of wireless networks and location sensing technologies have made it easier to track and share personal location information on the fly. By adding a location dimension, we can bring social networking back from the virtual world into real life and allow real-life experiences to be shared in a more convenient way. We define Location Based Social Networks (LBSN) as social network services where people can track and share location related information with each other, via either mobile or desktop computers. As location is one of the most important aspects for peoples everyday lives, a lot of novel application scenarios can be supported by LBSN. For example, we can collect and share more trustworthy location recommendations within LBSN and use them to rank interesting locations, discover new places, people and activities. The objective of this workshop is to provide a single forum for researchers and technologists to discuss the state-of-the-art, present their contributions, and set future directions in emerging innovative research for location based social networks.
